A Lagos State based landlady, Abimbola Obasuyi, is in serious pains after her tenant, Mujidat Ibrahim, battered her for allegedly barring her from selling Indian Hemp (called Igbo in local parlance), in her compound.
According to reports, trouble started for Obasuyi after she got information that Mujidat and her husband, Kaka, were selling the illicit drug at her residence at 37, Adigun Street, Itirie area of the state and had gone there to order them to stop but she got more than what she bargained for as she was beaten blue black by her tenant who left her with a bloodied nose.
According to the victim, when she got to the compound and confirmed from other tenants that Mujidat and her husband actually sold the drugs on her premises, she moved in and directed them to stop it forthwith and threatened to eject them and report to the police.
But that instruction did not go down well with the couple who challenged her to mind her business and this led to an exchange of words and in the process, resulted in the suspects allegedly attacking her.
During the fight, Obasuyi alleged that Mujidat’s husband allegedly held her while his wife rained blows on her and she was badly injured and bled profusely.
She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated before being taken to the General Hospital.
Following the assault, the case was reported at the Itire Police Division and Mujidat was arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ Court with assault occasioning bodily harm, while her husband escaped and has been at large since the incident.
When the charge was read to her, Mujidat pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. O. Adedayo, granted her bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety who must show evidence of payment of tax.
She was ordered remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition while the matter was adjourned till 8 February, 2016.
