Organisers of the Lagos International Jazz Festival will hold the annual event on May 30 and 31. In a release sent to R, Inspiro CEO and festival director, Ayoola Sadare said the festival is poised to become a major event on the Nigerian tourism calendar and will attract jazz and contemporary music lovers to the country that will stand alongside cities like Cape Town, Montreal, Montreux, New Orleans, London and Tokyo. “Lagos as a megacity is not going to be left out and will surely become a Jazz and music Mecca in the near future.’’
He stated that “ the Jazz Festival is not just another show, but a tourism brand with the potential to boost the image of the country, and add to the GDP of the state and Nigeria as a whole when properly developed.”
This year’s line-up has a few international acts, but the organisers have also chosen a significant number of Lagos-based Jazz musicians. “We chose to bring a few international musicians to Lagos not to the detriment of our home based musicians who put the Nigerian flavor into the genre, and which is what tourists want to see when they attend festivals, but because it is a good platform to spot future stars in an organic setting and have them interact with their international peers”.
The festival will also have the following adjunct value added events like Jazz & Music Workshops (music business management), Master Classes, Jazz Photography Exhibition. This year’s lineup Jazz promises to be engaging with performances from stars Victor Masondo (SA), Beat Kaestli, Bright Gain, Tee Mac, Eko Brass Band, Fadabasi, Daniel Bankole, Dotun Bankole, Ara, Ruby and a host of others. The event holds at the Freedom Park.
