"Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your loving kindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me . . .Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit in me." Psalm 51:1-3, 10
All leaders make mistakes. They are a part of life. Successful leaders recognize their errors, learn from them, and then work to correct their faults.
A study of 105 executives determined many of the characteristics of successful executives, but one particular trait they shared was identified as the most valuable. It was that they admitted their mistakes and accepted the consequences, rather than trying to blame others. Most people don't want to reap the consequences of their actions. You can see this type of attitude everywhere.
A leader who is willing to take responsibility for their actions and be honest or "transparent" with their people is someone they will admire, respect, and trust. That leader is also someone from whom they can learn.
