"For I think God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men."? 1 Corinthians 4:9
The greatest missing ingredient in Christian leaders today is credibility. Paul tests his level of credibility with his Corinthian followers by reminding them of how he had modeled what was right. He pleads with them to imitate him.
Leaders add infinite weight to their words by incarnating the principles they teach. Paul was able to scold the erring people and sternly correct them because he never asked them to do something he hadn't already done.
Observe his life: His leadership was on display and open for ridicule. He was willing to play the fool in order to model a surrendered life. He endured mocking from others, but didn't waver. He sacrificed luxuries that others enjoyed. He urged his followers to imitate his life. He sent Timothy to help them live up to godly standards. He reminded them that God's kingdom was not about talk, but power.
