Former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday said President Goodluck Jonathan was an ‘ordinary captain’ who could not device better strategies that would aid easy navigation of the country’s ship.
Meantime, barely few hours after the demise of the Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, Tinubu, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and other APC members in state held a one minute silence for the late Asoju Oba of Lagos.
Tinubu spoke at the Mega Rally organised by the Lagos APC held at the Volkswagen ground, Ojo Local Government to present the party candidates to residents of the state, saying the present administration has failed to develop any of the sectors successfully.
While addressing the crowd at the campaign ground, Tinubu said that “There are several persons who could boast that they are captain of ship. But not all the captains can navigate smoothly to make the journey interesting for their passengers. So it is in human endeavour.
“Jonathan is one of those ordinary captains and that was why when he came to Lagos recently, he admitted that he has failed. It is not my generation that failed but Jonathan’s generation failed.
According to him, “I remember that Jonathan came to Lagos and admitted that he failed. For instance, the Lagos-Badagry Expressway should have been fixed by a smart Federal Government because of its importance.”
The ex-governor of Lagos State who spent over an hour at the Volks end of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, due to traffic, lamented that the country needs a visionary leadership, adding “A leader that could proffer solution to the challenges that had bedeviled its development.
“In the last 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP led administration, the government has mismanaged the economy and they fielded Nigerians with false figures.
But he explained “I am proud to say that I started the breakage of electricity monopoly in the country when I was the Governor of Lagos State. The country’s electricity was then managed by Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.”
“And we said that there must be Independent Power Plant, IPP. If they had listen to my advise then, the country’s coal in Enugu and Nassarawa and Niger Delta states would have generated electricity in large megawatts and we would have at this moment achieve industrial revolution,” Tinubu avowed.
He noted that their inability to think exposed their lack the expertise and experience in governance.
On the governorship election in the state, Tinubu said “A vote for Jimi Agbaje, the PDP governorship candidate is a vote for Chief Bode George. For instance he joined the party three months before their primaries. And he contested the primaries and defeated Musiliu Obanikoro. But I believe that election was rigged because he does not have the capacity to win the PDP primaries.”
